Banyoles Hotel

Competition

Banyoles, Spain

The Banyoles Hotel, a winning design competition entry for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics rowing site, reimagined traditional hotel design by integrating architecture with the surrounding landscape. Its form was characterized by exponential torsions and phase shifts, creating a dynamic and complex geometry while maintaining the simplicity of replicated bedroom units. Inspired by historical agricultural divisions and the rhythmic motion of rowing, the design seamlessly blended past, present, and motion into both the building and its landscape. Although unbuilt due to budget constraints, the project remains an innovative exploration of architectural and environmental integration.
